Waitematā Station (Britomart) Newsletter

Kia ora neighbours,

This newsletter features:

An Update on Martinus Station Works
Temporary Station Building Deconstruction
Goodbye from Link Alliance
Link Alliance's Stakeholder Survey

In this month's update, lots of work around the station is wrapping up and teams are moving on!

An Update from Martinus

Platform 4 - previously platform 5 - looking flash
This month the focus was mostly on cleaning up final works on the station, platform and tunnels. Much of the work has been completed and you'll see fewer Martinus team members around the station as they move on to other projects. The Martinus Overhead Wiring (OHW) teams will continue working on the CRL project until mid-year.

It’s been great to see the teams' progress and the clean platforms and tracks ready for the operation of the CRL.

Temporary Station Building Deconstruction

Workers dismantling the temporary station
The Martinus team started deconstructing the temporary station building, which had been in place since 2017, in late January.

Work on dismantling the building has progressed well. Small ancillary units located inside the temporary station structure have been removed. Scaffolding has also been erected between the existing station entrance glasshouse and Commerce Street to remove the wall and roof cladding.

A crane is now set up onsite and is progressively assisting with the dismantle and removal of the structural steel frame.

Martinus is on track to complete deconstruction by late March 2024.

Goodbye from Link Alliance

Link Alliance's Appendix 26 team in the Chief Post Office building foyer celebrating completion of works

Thanks to those of you who joined for a small celebration in the Chief Post Office foyer on Valentine's Day. It was important to us to say thank you to everyone - team, community and passengers – for their patience while mahi was being completed. We shared in some delicious treats and some small flower bouquets from neighbour, Britomart Florist.

Here’s some of what the team has delivered during their time downtown:

  • Platforms 1 and 4 (previously 5) rebuilt and ready to connect to the CRL tunnels
  • Station retrofitted with new rooms for station control, communications and equipment
  • A section of underground bluestone wall was rebuilt
  • Upgraded systems installed, tested and commissioned including CCTV, access control, electrical, leaky feeder, mechanical, hydraulic, fire, communications, security, building management and train control
  • Elevators upgraded and a smokescreen installed
  • A 120-metre tunnel originally built for light rail retrofitted to house 13 new system control rooms
  • Temporary structures from earlier CRL work were decommissioned
  • Work delivered on time and under budget
  • Coordinating work in a live station environment with minimal impact to station operations

With the Link Alliance Appendix 26 team’s physical works complete, they are finalising handover to new asset owners.

Have you completed the final Link Alliance 5-minute stakeholder survey?

Be in quick – the survey closes on Friday 1 March!

Your responses will be anonymous and as a way of saying thank you, you can enter a draw to win a $100 local business gift card.

We'd love to hear from you if you haven't already completed this survey on Link Alliance's communication and engagement about the work that's been happening around Waitematā Station. It covers Link Alliance's communication and engagement efforts over the past three months. This will be the last opportunity for us to hear from you as it is the final survey before Link Alliance's section of work at the station is complete.
