Upcoming CLG meeting

City Rail Link (CRL) would like to warmly invite you to the next Britomart Community Liaison Group (CLG) before activity ramp up in May. This CLG meets regularly and is an opportunity for you to hear about upcoming works from the construction team, ask questions and give feedback.

The next Britomart CLG will be held in person in the Chief Post Office and online via Teams at 4pm on Wednesday 27 April 2022.

At this meeting we’ll update you on the ongoing Britomart works around the station itself, and at Britomart Place.

RSVPs are essential. Please RSVP via email to info@CityRailLink.govt.nz

Coffee, Crossiants & Construction Chats

Thank you to everyone who came down to Takutai Square on the morning of Wednesday April 13. It was a great opportunity for our comms and constructions teams to meet local Britomart workers and residents and chat about the upcoming works.

Thanks to our neighbour, Amano, for supplying a delicious selection of pastries!

We look forward to meeting more of you at future events.

Underground Easter works completed

There may not have been too much to see above ground, but underground it was all go over the Easter weekend! Works took place on the northern wall inside the rail tunnel under Scene Lane/Britomart Place.

A team of over 90 people converged on the tunnels to work on:

  • the demolition of the old north walkway
  • tunnel strengthening
  • track works
  • hoarding construction
The team worked 13 hours per day throughout the Easter long weekend to get as much done as they could while the rail line was closed. The nightshift team worked on Friday and Saturday night to ensure materials were available and ready for the bigger day shift team.

Meet the team

Name: Seth Waldrom
Company: Link Alliance
Title: Project Engineer

I’m the Link Alliance Project Engineer for Appendix 26 works. Appendix 26 works incorporates the building of the Britomart Station back of house rooms, as well as the smoke curtain installation and raising of the concourse inside the station.

I love my job as I get to build awesome things that benefit the end user - sometimes in ways people don’t even realise or see! Outside of work I enjoy mountain biking and I DJ.

Britomart Place works

Physical works above ground in Britomart Place are now expected to start in early to mid-May. These works will be delivered by our contractor, Martinus Rail.

The Martinus team are continuing to liaise with neighbouring businesses and apartments as they finalise construction planning.

The diagram below shows the approximate location of the works, ensuring pedestrian and vehicle access through Scene Lane and Britomart Place will be maintained.

Link Alliance works

This month, Link Alliance have been getting ready to hand over completed back of house rooms to Auckland Transport. These rooms will be used by staff until CRL is operational. Back of house civil construction will continue with support rooms being built to the east, underground near Britomart Place.

The team is also gearing up to install a smoke curtain inside Britomart Station. When the CRL is operational, more passengers are expected to be using the station. For health and safety reasons, a smoke curtain is required be installed to capture smoke within the station if a fire were to occur.

The smoke curtain would contain smoke, while people use the emergency stairs to exit the station. The smoke curtain will be installed on the ceiling, in line with the middle of the platform escalators.
