Meet Our Neighbour - Shakespeare Hotel & Brewery

Dave – Shakespeare’s Operations Manager

Dave – Shakespeare’s Operations Manager

We’re building the CRL throughout the commercial heart of Auckland and we’ve got a number of diverse businesses and residents as our neighbours.

Each month we will be introducing you to one of our neighbours from the communities we work in. If you’d like us to come and meet with you drop us a line at info@cityraillink.govt.nz

For the inaugural profile, we’re introducing you to Sunny Kaushal - the owner of The Shakespeare Hotel and Brewery at 61 Albert St.

Built in 1898, The Shakespeare is an iconic piece of New Zealand’s history, the country’s Oldest Microbrewery pub and an iconic hotel. More than 120 years later and it’s still going strong with visitors and locals alike enjoying the classic pub fare, a stay at the hotel and tours of the microbrewery in the heart of Auckland’s CBD.

Sunny has owned the Shakespeare since 2017 and says “we have a great team at Shakespeare, who are keen to give all patrons an original Kiwi Pub Experience.”

“It will be amazing having Aotea station right by Shakespeare once the CRL is complete. Right now though, it can be challenging having construction works right outside our door. We are looking at every opportunity to keep Shakespeare up and running until works along Albert St are finished.”

When the CRL team popped in to visit we also got to meet with Dave the Operations Manager, and Michael the Head Chef.

While Michael keeps the menu seasonal and diverse to cater to everyone’s taste buds, Dave reckons the most popular meals would have to be the lamb shanks and the fish and chips.

The historic pub also has a multi-use function space that can cater for 120 people which the Connectus/CRL team have used for some of our events.

The Shakespeare is open every day with happy hour every evening from 4pm-6pm and daily food specials. For more information and bookings visit their website www.shakespeare.nz
