Wellesley St entrance showing face

We’re starting to see the full picture at Te Waihorotiu Station (Aotea), with the installation of the first architectural façade panels on the Wellesley Street entrance building (also known as the Wellesley superstructure).

These panels represent the ‘earth element’, one of four elements illustrated in the station’s design. The earth element is an expression of Papatūānuku (earth mother) in Māori mythology and reflects the local geology.

The colour, texture and materiality of the element are drawn from Waitemata Sandstone, commonly seen on cliffs around Tāmaki Makaurau. It is an expression of solidity and warmth.

The installation of the remaining panels will continue over the next few months and when passing by, you’ll be able to see its graduating shades.

The render below is a visual representation of how the building will look when complete.
