Mt Eden’s Art Walk & Wellness Program

Mt Eden Art Walk

City Rail Link (CRL) is committed to creating Auckland’s biggest art project and has partnered with local artists to deliver incredible visual experiences across our future stations.

Late July, the Link Alliance launched the ‘Mt Eden Art Walk’, a self-guided, family-friendly journey of artwork installed on CRL hoardings around the site. Artists, Local Board members and Link Alliance staff gathered to attend the very first Mt Eden Art Walk.

Along each CRL station site, hoardings – temporary solid fencing structures – have been erected around the perimeter of construction to ensure health and safety for the community and our workers. The hoardings are used to tell the story of the CRL project, celebrate the local community and artists while improving the amenity of the area.

The Mt Eden Art Walk is made possible by a collaboration of New Zealand artists Melinda Butt, Mark Barber, Jayden Plank, Eliav Melzer, Wolfe Girardin and father-and-son-duo Jan and Piet Ubels.

The artwork is displayed along Symonds, Ruru, Flower, Nikau and Shaddock Streets.

Once Auckland is back to COVID-19 Alert Level 1 or Level 2, a map of the tour as well as kid-friendly activity brochures can be collected from Te Manawa.

Over the coming months, more artworks will be added to the hoardings, telling the story of Uptown’s unique past, present and future.

Wellness Program

This month, Link Alliance launched a wellness pilot program aimed to support the wellbeing of the Mt Eden Community.

The Mt Eden Station team welcomed local residents and businesses to the Cityside Baptist Church where they could enjoy a daily quiet space to work, study, or just relax in. The team also offered weekly wellbeing activity sessions of mindfulness and meditation.

However, in usual lockdown style, plans were placed at a halt and the physical wellness space has been closed until further notice.

To continue supporting the wellbeing of the community through this time of uncertainty, the wellbeing activities have been moved online. The classes include guided meditation, yoga nidra and meditative art.

If you are a Mt Eden Station neighbour and would like to find out more about the wellness program, please contact the team on 0800 CRL TALK (0800 275 8255) option 5 or email mteden@linkalliance.co.nz.

The Mt Eden Station site, along with all CRL sites, has ceased construction while under COVID-19 Alert Level 4 conditions. A small crew of critical workers will be on site to support the running of tunnel boring machine.
