KiwiRail has confirmed that three new train stations are being proposed for southern Auckland – one of the fastest growing areas in the city.

The stations are centred on the Southern Line, one at Drury Central, another at Drury West and the third at Paerata.

The new stations will include bus terminals, and a park-in-ride facilities for commuters.

Over the next 30 years, an extra 120,000 people are expected to live in the area, which will also have 40,000 new houses and 38,000 new jobs.

The proposed stations are the latest in a line of steps to upgrade the Auckland rail network, which includes the electrification of line between Papakura and Pukekohe by 2024 and the City Rail Link and its two new underground stations, Aotea and Karangahape.
