City Rail Link and the Link Alliance have teamed up to welcome Mates – a mental health programme targeted at reducing high suicide rates in the construction industry – to CRL sites across Auckland.

The Mates team help remove the stigma around mental health and ensure that the right support is in place to anyone who is finding the going tough.

CRL Health and Safety Manager, Rob Mair, said the project recognises that mental health and wellbeing is just as important as physical safety - and working in a safe way has benefits that are felt by many: not just workers, but whānau, friends, colleagues and the broader communities in which we live and work.

“Our vision for health and safety is 'Mahia te mahi, hei painga hei oranga mo tātou katoa - To do the work for the good of everyone,” Mair said.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Mates in Construction to deliver this powerful programme across all of our worksites.”
