Fare Free Saturday

Ad for Fare Free Saturday, 3 July

On Saturday 3 July 2021, all bus, train, and most ferry services will be completely fare-free* all day.

The initiative is to help encourage Aucklanders to get out and enjoy the city, try out the public transport services, while also allowing visitors a free ride into the city to see the great work that has been done in the Downtown area, Karangahape Road area and more.

Customers are encouraged to tag on and off with their AT HOP card if they have one, to track customer numbers, however customers without an AT HOP card will still be allowed to travel. Please note face covers are still required on all public transport services.

On Friday 2 July, the Downtown area will officially be opened by Prime Minister and other VIP guests. The area has been transformed recently and now includes six new ferry berths, new paving, gardens and seating along Quay St, Te Wānanga, a new spectacular public space over the water alongside the ferry building, new cycleway along Quay St, and the Britomart CPO is now open.

On the day of Free Fare Saturday (3 July), there is a Matariki event being held at Silo Park. More information can be found here: www.silopark.co.nz/matariki
