Albert Street Progress

March was another busy month for City Rail Link works along Albert Street. Connectus, CRL’s contractor responsible for delivering that section of works, had made great progress until the country-wide lockdown came into effect last week.

Progress for the month of March included:

  • Seven new light poles were installed between Wyndham to Swanson Street west.

  • Kerb footing and kerbs have been constructed on the east side of Albert Street from Wyndham to the New Zealand Trade Centre driveway.

  • Most of the underground services and utilities have been completed, with only low voltage joint bays remaining.

  • Between Swanson and Wolfe Streets, the construction of the kerb, channel and footpath base was completed.

  • On the east side between Swanson Street and Mills Lane outside the Stamford Hotel, the old footpath was removed and an upgrade of the underground services and utilities was mostly completed.

  • The new footpath on Mills Lane was completed and the street temporarily reinstated until the asphalt can be completed.

  • On the last block between Wolfe Street/Mills Lane to Customs Street, construction of the kerb and channel on the west side was completed, and half of the pavers installed for the new footpath.

  • The team also switched the southbound traffic to the far west side, which allowed the team to complete the removal of the construction deck on the eastern side of Albert Street outside DFS Galleria, between Mills Lane and Customs Street.

Albert Street streetscape enhancements will continue once the lockdown period is over and construction teams are authorised to go back to work.

In the meantime, essential site security and traffic inspections will be undertaken to ensure the site remains safe during this period. The Connectus team hopes everyone is safe and well in lockdown and are looking forward to getting back on site to complete the works.
