Our Art in Construction

The City Rail Link (CRL) is not only Aotearoa’s largest infrastructure project, but also the country’s largest art project. This month, our contractors, the Link Alliance released a series of self-guided Art Walks around the CRL station sites as part of Auckland Artweek 2021.

A snippet of the artwork ‘Urban Mesh’ which is built from photographic imagery gathered during Deborah Crowe’s urban ‘wanderings’ in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Each station produced a brochure with a specially designed map, to help the public navigate the local art installations and highlight the hoarding art displayed around the CRL construction sites.

Traditionally used to separate the public from construction activity safely, CRL instead uses its hoardings as blank art canvasses. Establishing partnerships with local artists and groups, who have lovingly painted, sculpted, and brightened the communities surrounding the Aotea, Karangahape and Mt Eden Station sites.

All information relating to CRL art initiatives, can now be found on the new ‘Our Art in Construction’ section of the website here: https://www.cityraillink.co.nz/art-in-construction.
