Have Your Say about Midtown

Midtown is the area that radiates from Aotea Square, including landmarks like the historic Auckland Town Hall, Civic Theatre, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki and SkyTower, two universities and two city parks. It’s where civic, cultural, education and commercial activities converge.

Several street upgrades and other urban developments across the neighbourhood will prepare midtown for the significant increase in people travelling in and out of the city centre daily once the brand-new underground station is operational.

Designs for the Victoria Street and Wellesley Street area near the station entrances are now being prepared to ensure these public spaces are accessible and welcoming for the thousands of people who will arrive every day.

These areas are Victoria Street, between Albert Street and Kitchener Street (Te Hā Noa Victoria Street Linear Park), and Wellesley Street between Albert Street and Queen Street (Wellesley Street Bus Improvements project).

While neither City Rail Link Ltd, nor our main contractor Link Alliance, are delivering these projects, we are working closely with Auckland Council and Auckland Transport to coordinate design and construction activities.

Public engagement is running till 3 November 2021, and we encourage you to have your say.

How to find out more and have your say

We encourage you to take a look at the project website, where design concepts are available to view. Please also consider providing feedback.

Detailed project information and feedback form on the Auckland Council Have Your Say website.

More information about other projects in the midtown area on the Progress AKL website.

The project team is also happy to arrange one-on-one briefings with businesses in the vicinity of the two projects. Under current Covid-19 Alert Level restrictions this would need to be via Microsoft Teams or phone call at a time that suits. Please email ATengagement@at.govt.nz if you would like to arrange a meeting.
