CRL takes on Auckland Heritage Festival

 

Explore the past, present and future of Maungawhau (Mount Eden), hear about the theft of the White Marble Polar Bear, learn about the city’s historical link to beer brewing and so much more at our upcoming events in association with Auckland Heritage Festival 2022.

From 1-16 October, the city-wide festival will bring more than 160 enlightening and intriguing events to the region; events to suit all tastes and ages. This year’s theme for the festival is topography, taonga (treasures) and trailblazers of Tāmaki Makaurau.

Link Alliance: Maungawhau and the future journey

 
 

The team at Maungawhau/Mount Eden Station are putting together a heritage walk through Eden Terrace, exploring the past, present and future of Maungawhau (Mount Eden).

When: Sunday 9 October and Sunday 16 October, 1pm-4pm

Where: Friend and Whau Café carpark, 250 Puhi Huia Road, Mt Eden

Meander down from the taonga that is Maungawhau, exploring history and finishing with the new City Rail Link station.

The event has been organised in partnership with Mana Whenua and features important stories and milestones that were significant to the formation of Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland).

Link Alliance: The historic Aotea Quarter

 
 

Find out about some of Auckland’s earliest key figures at the two-hour Te Waihorotiu Station (Aotea) guided walk with historian Edward Bennett.

When: Thursday 6 October and Thursday 13 October, 10am-12pm

Where: Te Pūkaki, Public Information Centre, Corner Elliot Street and Victoria Street, Auckland Central

Hear about the visits to Auckland by Sarah Bernhardt, Pavlova and Gauguin, also hear about the fire which destroyed the Auckland Opera House and the theft of the White Marble Polar Bear.

City Rail Link: Boreholes: a window into Auckland’s past – SOLD OUT

 
 

Discover Tāmaki Makaurau’s unique topography gleaned from 127 core samples taken as part of City Rail Link ground investigations.

When: Friday 7 October, 6.00pm – 7.30pm        

Where: Te Manawa, 1 New North Road      

A lecture-style event, where attendees will hear from Aurecon’s borehole expert Philip Kirk. Presentations will cover what they discovered beneath our feet and what we can learn from Auckland’s rich geological and cultural past.

Link Alliance: History and future of Karangahape

 
 

Join Historian Edward Bennett for a tour along and around Karangahape Road, moving through the history and architecture of a vibrant precinct which has transformed throughout the decades.
