CRL's laptop gift

CRL Ltd’s Chief Executive, Dr Sean Sweeney (left) chatting with Sir Pita Sharples, who founded the Kura Kaupapa Māori ō Hoani Waititi in Glen Eden. The school provides Te Aho Matua, Māori immersion education for Year 1 to Year 13 students. CRL Ltd has donated a number of under utilised laptops for students there, and Dr Sweeney, CRL’s Social Development Advisor Berenize Peita and Technology Manager Chris Chong were guests at the school’s monthly hui a marae (school assembly) where the gift was acknowledged.

Chris says while the market value of the laptops would not have been much, their value to the school was huge.

“As a parent myself I know that computers are important tools in the classroom these days, but they don’t come cheap. This was a great opportunity to re-furbish the CRL laptops and give them a new life that will be useful for the school’s intermediate and college students.”

Dr Sweeney says the donation was good opportunity to help Auckland’s tamariki and rangatahi.

“Today’s young children and teenagers are the generations that will get full benefit from the project when we finish in 2024 and make it easier to live and work in the city,” he says.
