Albert Street works update

Connectus, the McConnell Dowell and Downer joint venture team, restarted works on Tuesday 28th of April after a month long countrywide lockdown. The first day back at work started with separate pre-start meetings and training in new COVID-19 safe work procedures including the new rules for working under Alert Level 3, safe hygienic practices and social distancing. Connectus’ priority is to keep the community and the construction team safe.

After the pre-start meetings, the team was ready to restart work and continue progress of the streetscape enhancement on Albert Street.

Between Wyndham and Swanson Street (westside) minor remedial works are being undertaken, this includes paving the infill-lids and around light poles.

On the East side between Wyndham and Swanson Streets and Swanson Street to Mills Lane, the construction of the kerb and channel, footpath, a bus bay (between Wyndham and Swanson Streets), and services work continue. At the Swanson St corner and between Wolfe to Customs Streets, the installation of the pavers is underway. Further down the street at the corner of Wolfe and Albert Streets, the raised vehicle crossing is being constructed.

Underground services and utilities are being upgraded. This work involves the water main and gas lines between Mills Lane and Customs Street, and the ITS and Citylink at the corner of Albert and Customs Streets.

A road closure is programmed from Monday 4th May until Wednesday 20th May, between Wyndham to Swanson Streets on the West side of Albert Street.

The northbound traffic from Wyndham to Swanson Streets will be closed (see the map below). This is so the new road at the corner of Swanson West and Albert Street (ANZ corner) can be constructed.

During this road closure there will be two detours:

  •   To Hobson/ Victoria/ Nelson/ Hobson

  • To Queen/ Custom/ Hobson

Access to Ellice Road carpark (on Albert Street) will be permitted.

Access to Park Residences carpark (on Swanson Street West) will remain unchanged.
