Waitematā Station

Waitematā Station

Waitematā Station (Britomart) works will help to future proof downtown Auckland station so that it’s ready for CRL.

Works as part of the C9 Contract are currently detailed as follows:

  • Modifying and improving existing track infrastructure within the Britomart East junction

  • Raising the west end B2 platform and concourse

  • Subsurface infrastructure including relocation of a tunnel wall underneath Britomart Place, strengthening beams, and utility relocation to enable beam strengthening

  • New equipment, control and driver accommodation rooms within the Chief Post Office basement

Works as part of the C9 Contract are generally of lesser scale when compared with other contract packages that make up the CRL project and are mostly confined to existing underground rail infrastructure. This means that their impact to project neighbours is confined to discrete locations.

The installation of track scissors at the eastern end of Waitematā Station (Britomart) together with associated civil works will be constructed by KiwiRail as the first part of C9 Contract works.

Construction of vertical transportation is currently being investigated. This will eventually be required to enable egress once 9-car electric trains are in place.

There is limited above-ground work forecasted to impact on project neighbours. Potentially disruptive work includes the enabling works for the relocation and realignment of the tunnel wall which will occur within a discrete footprint within the eastern side footpath of Britomart Place.

Once the scope of works to build vertical transportation is finalised, there will also be localised impact of construction on construction neighbours.

Quay Park Yard

At Quay Park Yard site, located near Te Taou Crescent, Link Alliance is building a traction sectioning cabin, along with HV cabling systems out into the railway corridor.

The traction sectioning cabin is a key piece of rail infrastructure that supplies power to the overhead traction network within City Rail Link tunnels. The building houses high-voltage switchgear that controls the flow of electricity to the overhead traction wires, and assists with fast isolation and restoration when faults occur on the network.

Site works commenced Easter weekend 2022 and will run for 12 months.

Working hours will generally be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday. No large-scale piling or breaking activities are expected.
